7 Things About Myself

It’s going to be hard to try and think of 7 more things about myself, so for this one I will try to focus on interesting things about me from my childhood. If you would like to learn more, you can visit one of my other award nominations below.
Liebster Award Nomination
The Versatile Blogger Award
One Lovely Blog Award

1. When I was little, I didn’t want to be a veterinarian, a doctor, or an astronaut. I wanted to be the first woman in the NBA… I used to shoot hoops for hours after school. When I found out I wasn’t going to grow anymore, I cried. This all seems so ridiculous to me now. I wasn’t even good at basketball. I think I must have wanted to impress a boy 😉

2. I can walk on my hands. At least I could and probably still can if I tried but it hurts my wrists now. When I was younger, I walked around the house on my hands all the time and me and my friend Sharon would have races. I think I would have been good at gymnastics.

3. My friends and I started a babysitters club when we were kids. We used to have “meetings” in my bedroom and we made posters advertising our club and put them in mailboxes around the neighborhood. We never got one single call… probably because we misspelled babysitters (babysiters) and we were only in (around) 5th grade.

4. I had a black cocker spaniel named Jack. He was the best dog! When I sat on the floor in my living room watching cartoons he would come over and plop himself right down on my lap. He could do a lot of cool tricks and me and my twin sister took him to a talent show competition in elementary school (it was kind of a disaster but we were very young). His favorite people food were egg cakes (otherwise known as crepes). He would act so stuck up when he got a hair cut. His arch nemesis was the vacuum cleaner but his bed was right next to the closet we kept it in. His favorite thing to do was go on a car ride in our van. The few times he ran away, we went looking for him in the van and all we had to do to get him back home was say “You want to go for a ride Jack?” and he would come running. I loved that dog. ❤

5. I had a BFF growing up. She and I met in 1st grade and were inseparable. She lived with her family in a huge Victorian house. She played the french horn in band and I carried it for her when we walked to and from school everyday. We used to stop on a corner with a flag across from it on our way home from school and sing the national anthem at the top of our lungs. We had so many fun adventures together. We are still friends today, she lives in Texas and just had her first baby. I wish I could be there to help her with him and see him grow up.

6. My sisters and I played barbies a lot. Instead of Ken dolls we used a Roger Rabbit stuffed animal as our barbies boyfriend until we got 2 new kids on the block ken dolls. At one point Joey lost his leg, so we stuffed a marker up his pant leg and tied it in with a rubber band. After that he was known as “floppy”. My older sister and I always made my twin sister Krissy play with floppy. It probably wasn’t very kind of us to do that but it was true nonetheless. hehe 🙂

7. I loved being a child of the 80’s. From collecting garbage pail kid cards, to watching The Smurfs, Rainbow Brite, Mr. Dress Up, Full House, and Fraggle Rock (among many others) to wearing bib overalls and tight rolling our jeans… to hair spraying our bangs into a wave. There are so many nostalgic things that represent that one decade that are so unique and could never be considered anything but 80’s. I wouldn’t have wanted to grow up in any other decade.

Liebster Award Nomination

Wow another award nomination! Thank you five7and2 from The Wanderland Experience for nominating me!
I have to admit. I’ve seen this award going around and I had no idea what Liebster even meant! So I had to look up the definition. It’s a German word… translated to English it means sweetheart, beloved person, darling. What a nice compliment ❤

The Questions I was Asked

1.  What is your “go-to” song?
I have many, but to name one… I will go with “Human of the Year” by Regina Spektor because I love the tempo and the emotions I feel when I listen to it.

2.  If you could pick one color to represent you, what and why?
Teal. I’m not really sure why but I am drawn to this color.

3.  Indie or mainstream?
Both. The songs that I like would probably fall under both categories and are usually not sought out for a specific genre. I like singer songwriters with unique voices, songs with beautiful instrumentals and songs that draw out emotion.

4.  What is your favorite childhood memory?
I have so many. My childhood was the best part of my life. To choose one I would have to go with playing jailbreak on my block with the other kids in the neighborhood. My family and I lived on a small block where everyone knew each other well. My house had a small front porch and that was where the jail was. We played so much, we came up with different strategies and plans of attack, we even made maps of the area. It was so much fun.

5.  What is your biggest fear?
Failure and the unknown.

6.  Have you ever secretly crushed on a friends beau?
I had a crush on a boy for most of my adolescents. He was someone who hung out in the same group of friends that I did, so he was as much my friends as everyone elses. He dated one of our friends for a while but it wasn’t a secret that I liked him. Everyone knew. I got my chance eventually but it didn’t last long because he just wanted to stay friends. Later on in life when I was in my 20’s the tables turned… to bad for him, my feelings had changed long ago.

7.  Going to the movie theater or renting a movie?
The theater. I usually like it when there is no one else there but there are some movies that bring the whole audience together in moments of fear and/or laughter. Plus the theater that I go to has soft pretzels with cheese and it’s just an excuse to go have one.

8.  What would be a perfect day for you (morning to night)?
Waking up on a perfectly sunny day at a luxurious hotel with my fiance in an exotic location and a spread of breakfast food to choose from. After that we will go walking to different shops, where I am able to spend money on whatever I want.  I would love to go scuba diving and swim with dolphins and observe all the beautiful sea creatures and the coral reefs. Lunch with a gorgeous view of the water. Then go out onto a cruiser boat. Then get dressed up and go out to a show or event for dinner. And then watch the sunset with champagne. A day with no worries and no stress.

9.  What can you be caught doing at home when you think you’re alone?
Probably singing and dancing

10.  If given the chance, would you want to go back and “fix” anything?
There are some things in life that I regret but I would not go back and fix them because the experiences and the lessons I’ve learned are invaluable.

7 Interesting Things About Myself
I already did this with the One Lovely Blog Award. So for this one I will list 7 of my favorite things.

1. My favorite colors are gray, teal, and navy.

2. My favorite games are the old 80’s adventure computer games. A while back my fiance and I donated money to a kickstarter campaign to fund a remake of Leisure Suit Larry by Al Lowe. It’s finally done and I’ve just started playing it again. Some of my other favorites include: Kings Quest, Monkey Island, Space Quest, Police Quest and Quest for Glory.

3. My favorite tv shows are: Game of Thrones, Survivor, The Walking Dead, Dr. Who and HGTV Design Star. I record them so I can fast forward through the commercials.

4. I don’t listen to local radio stations unless I’m forced to. I listen to spotify, pandora and satellite radio. I am proud to say I’ve never heard a Justin Beiber song in my life and if I did, I didn’t know it was him. I like singer/songwriters with unique voices. Some of my favorites are: Radiohead, Tool, Florence and the Machine, Daughter, Lana Del Ray, Pink Floyd, Regina Spektor… and lots more. I love songs that can convey so much emotion they bring me to tears.

5. My favorite audio book is “Ready Player One” by Ernest Cline because it’s the most unique story I’ve ever read. It combines some of my favorite things: 80’s pop culture, games, virtual reality, treasure hunts, and a good love story.

6. My favorite fruit is avocado. It’s good on burgers, guacamole, sushi, salads, sandwiches or even just plain with some salt. If I could only pick one fruit to eat the rest of my life, it would be avocado.

7. My favorite food is sushi. There are so many different flavor combinations. I remember when I thought sushi sounded disgusting. I never thought I would be one to like it. The thought of eating raw fish was revolting. But after trying it, I found that for one thing… you don’t have to have raw fish in your sushi. You can get fried shrimp, soft-shell crab, spicy tuna, or broiled eel. Eel happens to be my favorite selection, it has a surprisingly sweet taste. Raw tuna and other raw fish don’t have strong flavors, they absorb the flavors of the food and sauces surrounding them and they have an aftertaste that is refreshing.

Baked Apple Pancakes

Baked Apple Pancakes by intraordinary
Baked Apple Pancakes, a photo by intraordinary on Flickr.

This morning when I realized I was out of milk and could not have cereal for breakfast I had to come up with another plan. I had pancake batter and apples to work with. Normally I would chop the apple up and put it in with the batter but another idea occurred to me.

I cored the apple and cut it up into thin slices. Then I let the apple cook in the pan between low and medium with some butter until it looked soft, like a baked apple. I then poured a little bit of the batter over the apple, just enough to cover it and fall over the edges. I sprinkled on some cinnamon and cooked the pancake evenly on both sides… and voila! A baked apple pancake.

Drizzle with maple syrup, devour and enjoy!

One Lovely Blog Award

I am thrilled to say I was nominated for the One Lovely Blog Award by Booni Blog, written by two lovely girls and their adventures in Dubai. Thank you so much for nominating me, you made my day! 😀

Rules of the OLB Award:

1. Thank the blogger who nominated you.

2. Add the “One Lovely Blog Award” image to your post.

3. Share seven things about yourself.

4. Nominate seven other bloggers.

5. Inform the nominees by posting on their blog.

7 things about me:

1. I recently graduated from college with a degree in graphic design and am now designing and editing ads for a local newspaper. It’s a great way to start my career because I get to design ads for many local brands. I really enjoy the work I do but I aspire to move on to bigger and better things someday.

2. I love anything art and design related. I am interested in graphic design, illustration, photography, interior design, sewing, nail art, I even designed digital clothing for an online virtual world called second life for many years. I still sell my clothing there and the extra income is a nice bonus each month! You can view all of my art here on my web portfolio.

3. I used to have a fashion blog called demina fashion where I featured digital clothing by different designers in second life. Second Life is a virtual world with it’s own economy and everything in it is built by the people in it. I eventually lost interest and I didn’t have enough time or dedication to continue but it was a lot of fun while it lasted.

4. I have an audio book obsession. It started a year and a half ago and I now have over 80 books in my audio library. Some people think that it’s cheating to listen to a book rather then reading it but I think the importance of a book is the story, not to prove I can read… It’s a different experience when you listen to a book. “The Help” by Kathryn Stockett, for example, is read by 5 people. Each person does multiple voices and it’s almost like listening to a movie being acted out, only you get to use your imagination instead. I recommend listening to it… I know I have, more then once. My favorite book is “Ready Player One” by Ernest Cline. I recommend this one as well.

5. I have the most wonderful man in the world and I am thankful for him every day. We’ve been together 7 1/2 years and our love grows stronger with each passing day. He still tells me I’m beautiful all the time and treats me like a princess. We are very lucky to have found each other. He is addicted to learning and I admire him greatly for it. Even though he doesn’t have time to go to school, he takes free classes on Coursera online. He’s learning computer programming. He is also interested in philosophy and his next goal is to study mathematics. He’s always reading at least 2 books at a time. I am so proud of my little nerd! We are engaged and have no plans of marriage or children yet. We are not at all traditional people and see no reason to rush things.

6. I have a twin sister who is exactly opposite of me in every way. We were attached at the hip (not literally) until about 20 years of age. After that we grew apart and it helped me to discover who I am as an individual. There are three questions people ask me whenever they find out I am a twin. 1. Are you identical? No. 2. Can you sense each others pain? No. 3. Who’s older? My mom had a c-section but I was taken out first, therefore I am older by less then a minute.

7. I have written journals since I was 8 years old. It’s a big part of my life. It’s amazing to be able to look back on my life and remember myself at different ages. It scares me to think that after I am gone, strangers might be reading my personal thoughts and feelings. But it is probably the best gift I have ever given to myself.
